The sensibility suits Patatap because the instrument needs charm without turning into a novelty ringtone collection.

The collaboration began remotely. Brandel later recalled extensive email exchanges with Lullatone while the collaborators built their first audiovisual instrument together. He described the project not only as an artwork but as a thought experiment about why software must attempt to be all-encompassing.

That question remains sharp. Software products are often rewarded for accumulation. A tool launches with one clear purpose, then grows accounts, workspaces, dashboards, sharing systems, analytics, marketplaces, artificial intelligence panels, team permissions, onboarding flows, and management settings. Each addition may be defensible. The complete object gradually becomes harder to describe and slower to enter.

Patatap goes in the opposite direction. It reduces its public vocabulary to key, sound, colour, shape, and timing. Even the spacebar does not open a control panel.
